Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry & Million Dollar Baby) stars with Richard Gere (An Officer and a Gentleman & Pretty Woman) in this Documentary type drama about the live and loves of Amelia Earhart. Any one who knows history is familiar with the tragic story of Amelia. One of our Nations finest Aviators who's sudden disappearance in 1937 sparked a world wide search and subsequent mourning after it became clear that she would never be found.
This has not stopped speculation that Amelia somehow did not die during the flight and landed somewhere and went on to live to an old age. (There was even one women who claimed to be her, but that turned out not to be true).
The movie was not well accepted by critics when it was released in 2009 however it does portray a very good likeness of the life of Amelia Earhart. The acting is pretty good and the plot, although sometimes boring, does catch on later in the film.
Ameila was Directed by Directed by Mira Nair (Who also directed Mississippi Masala).
Ameila also stars: Christopher Eccleston [Doctor Who] and Ewan McGregor [Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars).
I believe this movie is worth the money, but judge for yourself.
Hilary Swank stars as famed aviator Amelia Earhart in this dramatic biopic that follows the daring pilot's rise from obscurity in Kansas to her troubled marriage to businessman George Putnam, who recruited her for her first transatlantic flight.
Hilary Swank, Richard Gere, Ewan McGregor
Hilary Swank is outstanding in this bio-pic, and Richard Gere delivers his usual workmanlike performance. The cinematography and sets are also realistic and give a feeling of thirties.
The story itself is compelling, but several aspects are glossed over. Earhart's devotion to feminine causes and her decided lack of femininity in the traditional sense are not emphasized enough. Her strongheadedness is, but it was in a certain direction, and while the movie does leave viewers with a sense of a person trying to do her best in her own way, it doesn't quite ring true enough because of that lack of emphasis.
The part that is most intriguing about Earhart's story is, of course, her final flight and the mystery surrounding her disappearance. The relationship with Noonan was somewhat misleading and several important factors were again left mostly unexplored. There have been whole books about just this last flight, and it is mostly relegated to a couple of lines on the screen after the movie story is already finished.
Amelia Earhart was a fascinating character and her story is absorbing, but despite Swank's earnest performance, the story itself has too many spots where it needs to be fleshed out in order to make it as gripping as her life itself.
this movie has a bit of history behind some of aemia"s flight and what she accomplished as a woman aviator.it has roamance.it gives insite how she met her husband and the man she had an affari with.it has a bit of adventure as you follow her journey on the different things she accomplsihed, like crossing the atlantic solo.to sum it up it also shows how she may have gotten lost at sea and the reason to why she may have nevere made it all the way around the world.this movie is well acting and the costumes are great for that era.

The story touches on the real life of Amelia and the way she was used to exploit merchandise. While she was one of the first women to fly, she was used by the media. The love story between her publicist, who eventually became her husband, is the best part of the movie.
