Movie synopsis
This epic two-volume set matches the grand sounds created by one of rock's most influential bands. AMAZING JOURNEY: THE STORY OF THE WHO chronicles the group's reign in music history with two full-length feature documentaries. In THE STORY OF THE WHO, all four band members--Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon--share their thoughts on their rise to fame. This documentary also includes rare film footage, as well as praise from famous fans such as Eddie Vedder, U2's The Edge, and Sting. SIX QUICK ONES features four short films that focus on each of the band's musicians, all legends in their own right. This second volume also features WHO ART YOU?, an exploration of the band's connection to visual art, and WHO'S BACK, a film from D.A. Pennebaker (DON'T LOOK BACK) about the band's 2003 return to the studios. Both casual and avid fans of the rockers will be pleased by the exhaustive and exhilarating footage found in AMAZING JOURNEY.

A must for fans of The Who

This double DVD set, with booklet as well, is an absolute MUST for any Who fan! I've only watched the 1st DVD so far and it wowed me. It gives the band's history from the very beginning up until some years after 2000. I've been a Who fan since Woodstock (1969), mostly because of Roger Daltrey, but in this film I realized what incredible talent there was in every member of that band. Pete Townshend's lyrics and guitar work, John Entwhistle---too long unrecognized as one of the finest bass guitar players in the world, and Keith Moon, a maniac but an unbelievably talented drummer. He died much too soon, but his lifestyle almost guaranteed it. The rest of the band was and still is devastated by the death of John Entwhistle not that long ago; Pete T. says that to this day he looks to where John always stood---quiet, alone---and can't believe he's not there. I can't wait to see what's on the 2nd DVD, but based on the first any fan of The Who MUST have this set!

Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who (2007, DVD)

I really love this dvd set. It not only has excellent footage of the band in concert, but excellent and revealing interviews with Pete, and Roger, and shows just how good these guys really are, expecially John, and Keith who usually did not get the attention that they deserved. The guitar player for the baand Oasis said it best: "It was a competition on stage with the Who, there were 4 guys all playing lead." That is what makes this band so unique.

The caveat was the footage of them in the studio recording a new song after an absense of 20+ years, and also of Zak Starkey on drums being treated as an equal, and with respect for his musical contributions. The kid can really play! Zak plays Keith Moon almost better than Keith.

Amazingly Shallow

I think they tried to cram so much information into one documentary that it resulted in a serious lacking of substance. Events such as Tommy, Quadrophenia, the abandoned Lifehouse project, the death of Keith Moon, and the riot in Cincinnati deserve more time for detail than what was alloted. It just felt cold. I wound up losing interest before the show was halfway through, and decided to watch The Golden Girls instead.

There are some good points, including footage of the famous Cow Palace concert where Moonie passed out; I also enjoyed interviews with Kenney Jones, as well as Pete & Roger. But overall, it just didn't impress. Such a shame, as The Who have been my musical idols since around 1975, and I was really looking forward to this one...

Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who (DVD, 2007)

I first saw this rockumentary on one of the cable channels and enjoyed it so much I had to get the DVD. I grew up listening to The Who, have been to their mesmerizing concerts and everything they do is gold. Talk about getting better with age. Our class song was "My Generation" They are one of the most amazing & consistent collaborations in rock history and even though some members have been lost along the way their spirit still lives on with this band and their incredible staying power with eclectic sounds & style.
