charming if quaint

I bought this set because I have many friends who rave about the series and I couldn't get it at the local video store. I never read the books nor watched the series on public TV, but I wanted to try it based on friends' recommendations.

The episodes are charming if quaint. The lighting and sound quality are poor and the broghe is so thick that it's often difficult to follow the dialogue. But the plots move along and are filled with the sort of characters (two and four legged) that the British specialize in. Each episode lasts about an hour. The setting is rural Scotland circa mid-1930s(?). The appeal is probably limited to those who (like me) love British cinema and TV.

They become members of your family.

I love the series. I love animals and the English Countryside. I have read all of his books and found them delightful, sensitive and quite hilarious. Just like a good book - the dvds are hard to turn off - you want to watch all of them as soon as you receive them. The characters become members of your family. What a wonderful way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Excellent !

These English programs are extraordinary. Absolutely love them and can't get enough.
It shows the lifestyle of Rural Veterinarians in the Dales of England. The most exceptional parts are the differences of the people and what they go through.
The shows also help you deal with what you're going through and makes you want to be their neighbors.
