The British pub band that become internationally acclaimed after their hit songs, "Sultan's of Swing" & "Money for Nothing," topped the best selling charts back in the 1970's. They've gone on to become a legendary rock band over the last 3 decades, scoring major hit albums and giving sell out live performances around the globe.
Dire Straits are featured on this DVD doing a variety of live performances on which is befittingly entitled "Alchemy Live." The best part of the DVD is the live footage of Dire Straits transforming itself into a mature group of performance artists with a wide range of audiences to which its music appeals.
The other key feature of this particular DVD is that it includes so many of Dire Straits' live performances of their most popular best selling hits~
My favorite concert video of all time...finally out on disc. However, after having seen the blu-ray, I'm kind of wondering if I shouldn't have gotten the DVD version. First, let me say that the sound, which is of course the most important thing, is amazing. I have this on VHS and the sound wasn't bad, but obviously the CD sound was better. However, the production of the new 5.1 surround sound is top notch. You will hear nuances you never heard before. You may even hear Hal Lindes guitar on some of the songs that it was so low in the old mix as to be inaudible on the old stereo mix.
As for the video...well, the source material kind of limits what can be done. The original was shot for TV/Home Video release in 4:3 aspect and to be honest there is not a whole lot of improvement in the transfer to blu-ray. Specs of dirt and dust pop up onto the screen in the first few seconds of the concert, and it doesn't get much better from there. However, the included 1 hr bonus documentary is excellent, with both concert and studio footage from the band as they wrapped up the Communique tour and began recording Making Movies. Little brother David was still in the band at this point, although the documentary notes that this was the last footage of him with the band as he left very shortly afterward. During the interviews with Mark and David you kind of get a sense of a tension under the surface.
So bottom line, awesome audio and not much improvement on the video. If the DVD version includes the documentary then I would probably recommend just going with that.
Great Great Concert! Must have for Mark's fan. Now I own Blue-Ray, DVD, LD and VHS versions. I think the Blue-Ray version is better than DVD and DVD is better than LD and LD is better than VHS version. I have waiting for blue-ray/DVD version for many many years. Don't complain the quality of the video. Enjoy Mark's guitar performance.
Great experience!!!!
I like the product and blu-ray is the best. Fortunately I have a playstation 3
I recommended. Thank you
Not good as I expected.
Sound quality is pretty well, but video is very blurry and old-fashioned...
