First the hybrid portion of the set. I previously played Adams A2OSs. Great clubs, BTW, but the V3s are easily 10-15 yds longer on the hybrids and easier to hit solidly. Slight mis-hits would kill yardage and accuracy on the A2s. Not so on the V3s. Mis-hits are only slightly shorter and still stay pretty much stay online. The hybrids represent a big jump in performance.
Second the forged 8-GW irons. I've read grumblings that they lack 'feel', but I haven't found that to be true. They too are GI, like the hybrids, but like any forged club, if you mis-hit it, there's a penalty to play. I'm still getting a feel for individual club distance, but I'm inclined to say the 8i is longer, the others about the same as my A2OSs. The GW continues to be a fave of mine from 80 yds and in - and is a great chipping club. The 7i is the 'transition' club. It seems like a normal 7i to me, just with a fatter sole.
Overall a significant improvement in the longer clubs of the set, and the shorter irons are of high quality. I'm hitting many more greens from 160yds and in, if that tells anything.
If you like hitting hybrids, I believe you'd very likely be a fan of this set. Because I like these hybrids so much, I'm getting rid of a couple Ping G5 hybrids (16 and 19 degs), and those were darned good hybrids....just bought the 17 deg 2h and will be on the lookout for the 3h. :)
I am a high handicapper and when I'm at the top of my game I shoot low 90's. I used to have a set of tommy armour 855s, which were fine clubs that had the mid hybrid style with the 5 and 6 iron. I really like the 4 to 6 wood style hybrids. I give it a nice easy swing and the ball goes a mile high. Very forgiving and easy to hit hybrids. I love the 7 mid hybid because it is just like the 5 and 6 irons of my old set. I prefer the forged scoring irons to the hybrid scoring irons. After just a few weeks my accuracy with them is greatly improved.
I've had these clubs for little over 2 months and I shot 88 last weekend. My low for the season was the week before and I shot an 86. These clubs are great and I would highly recommend them to anyone in the high handicapper category.
I shot a 88 the first time I used these...the first time I EVER broke 90 in my life! The wedges stick like glue and the hybrid irons are as easy to use as a fairway wood. I just can't say enough about these irons, I traded Callaway for these and am not looking back!
I just received my custom set (I'm tall!) of the Adams Idea Tech V3 4-7 Hybrid, 8-GW Forged, and I've got to say that Adams is leading the way in innovation and all around great club performance. I tried these out on a demo day at my local golf course and fell in love with them, but decided to go and hit the other offerings from the more well-known club makers. After hitting them all, the Adams Tech V3 is probably the most forgiving clubs I've played and when you get into one just right, be prepared to be blown away by the raw, straight distance you get. Shaping shots is a breeze and even if you mishit on a shape, it's still forgiving enough to put you in a decent position. I picked up a 3H to add to my set for those long fairway shots and occasional 3 wood tee shots and if you are a fan of hybrids, then I highly recommend considering picking one up to round out the set. Just like I put on my review of the F11, I've always overlooked Adams and went for the bigger names, but I'm glad that I got past that and gave them a shot. They look great and if you get fitted (highly recommended - these clubs sit just a little different than I was accustomed to), you won't be disappointed in the results. My only complaint is that I'm a little concerned that the cosmetic finish may wear off of the soles easier than with other clubs, but from reading online it seems that Adams has addressed this issue but it remains to be seen long-term how it holds up. Aside from that minor quibble, this was the best golf purchase I've ever made. My scores are improving and I'm breaking into the mid 70's from my usual 80-85 and seeing steady improvement. Golf is exciting again!
Previous Irons - Ping Eye2, Callaway X24
Previous Hybrids - Ping Rapture 18* & 21*
I wanted some new irons. I tried the V3's out at a sporting goods store & liked how they felt. The clubs are what the manufacturer claims. They are easy to hit. I actually hit the Adams V3's farther than my old clubs. That is probably the hardest thing to get used too. I would recommend these clubs to anyone.
