Adams golf is famous for their hybrids. I recently read a review of their A7 irons and tried them out. Unfortunately, I have been spoiled by forged and the salesman recommended the A4s, which are forged. These are great irons. Forged feel,at least 5 to 7 yards longer in the short irons than my previous Nike CCis. Partially this is due to the Adams being 2 degrees stronger and part due to the Project X 5.5 shafts which are really sweet. The long irons are Ok. Since this is a hybrid set (3 and 4), the 5 iron is called a transition iron which feels heavy to me compared to the shorter irons sequence. The hybrids are solid typical for Adams. They are a forged "game improvement" irons, that are more forgiving than other forged offerings by other companies. They have a thinner top line and sole than most irons in this group. The thinner sole makes it much easier to hit irons out of the rough. They are cavity back and the insert is simple, without all the coloration and decoration most other companies add. Looks like a players iron at address. (Although I tried the Mizuno MX300 and they felt and responded very similarly, I just liked the Adams a little bit better) These irons come standard with True Temper dynamic gold SL shaft. (Note: I bought the satin finish irons set 4-PW, since I already have a 3 and 4 Nickent ironwoods and the irons have an upgraded projectX shafts and upgraded golf pride multi compound grips, but I purchased these are trying the standard A4 setup five or six different times) I have played these irons only several times since purchasing them, but I am very pleased with the purchase. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a forged, good looking, thinner profile, and forgiving iron set with the benefit of two very good hybrids.
I'm not good enough to hit blades, but I don't like the big offset and thick look of game improvement irons. These A4's give me a players club look with plenty of forgiveness with their cavity back and perimeter weighting. The forged feels great and they are easy to hit. Got mine used on Ebay for a bargain, so I bought another set as back-ups. Love em.
I decided to 'upgrade' from my Taylormade R7 tp's which is unheard of. I compared them to my Tp's and the topline of the A4's are actually thinner. At address the A4 just looks easy to hit. The feel is like any Titleist blade or Mizuno Blade out there with MORE forgiveness. Believe me I spent the last 2 months doing research and testing clubs. I had over $1000 to spend and I decided to go with Adams A4 forged for a grand total, get this, $335. The clubs are about half an inch longer than normal and the lie is about 3/4 a degree more upright than my TP's. The ONLY thing i can say negative is that these might not conform to the new groove rules put into place, they are still testing on that. Pick up a set before they run out! Oh yea stock shafts are nice but if you can find some with proj. X flighted......now thats the ticket!
Love these clubs! These are not the senior type irons that Adams seems to be most associated with. the A4's are a forged set of irons that have a smaller overall size with less offset and therefore slightly less forgiving than most of the X22 / burner type irons. Very nice Finish... High Quality Shafts and a price that was the best I found for this quality. If your somewhere between scratch and 10 you'll love these!
Looks are just beautiful with chrome finished forged 8620 steel. Great feel - not quite like MP-52s or MP-58s but this set also costs a third. Hybrids are easy to hit and long. Highly recommended!
