I bought this phone because I have an Acer Ferrari laptop that has been outstanding. I'm a bit disappointed in the phone but I'm not sure that it's the phones fault - I think I'm a need-buttons-to-press kinda girl.
Some of the issues I have are...
Having to unlock it every time I want to use it, also when answering calls and not being able to turn this 'feature' off.
The power button is directly opposite the volume button therefore I often find myself turning the volume down or off inadvertently.
The buttons are on the lower edge of the phone so are fiddly to turn on - if they were on the upper edge, they would be much easier and could be done one handed.
It's not as customisable as button phones so I have a whole bunch of icons I don't use and never will that I would like to get rid of.
I can't save texts like I used to be able to. They are listed as full 'conversations' and can't be separated.
I can't delete bookmarks.
The browser functionality is limited.
The voice recorder playback is appalling on the phone but sounds OK when downloaded and played back on computer.
The battery only lasts about 24 hours, and I have no additional apps and run at bare minimum usage.
I haven't been able to open or create any documents with the doc app on the phone without paying for the full version.
Down or uploading stuff onto it via computer is fairly straight forward but the file names aren't very clear so I wasn't sure where to save what sort of docs to for retrieval later.
I'm struggling to get used to the onscreen keypad (that's not the phones fault - that's my ineptitude!)
However...the bits I'm starting to appreciate are...
Pulling it out of the box, putting my old sim in it and getting started was instant.
The GPS (although I've only looked up directions so far - I haven't actually used it to get somewhere).
The camera takes great pictures - I like how it freezes the frame before taking the image (but when cropping/resizing on the computer, images appear more pixelated).
I like the icons that appear on the top edge of the phone when a call or message comes through (although, it would be great if there was a different icon for texts and messages - currently an envelope shows for both. It would also be helpful if the time could show on the edge too, instead of having to power on before being able to check time).
I was pleasantly surprised by the sync with gMail so all the contacts I had stored on my sim had their details from my gMail account synced (ie: not multiple listings for each persons individual details which often happens with syncing address books).
The fast keys are good, especially the menu. It's just a shame that the menu doesn't allow more customising of features.
Charging is a breeze
The carry case is good too, but I would rather have something that protects it but that I can still use the phone through without having to take it off.
I haven't had any luck syncing it with my computer yet, but that, I think/hope, is due to having dodgey internet access at the moment. It would have been good to get a driver with it for just this reason.
I've admitted that this is the first smartphone I've used/owned so you can freely discount everything above as naivety and ineptitude however, I normally have a baddaboom reaction to technology but I have to say this relationship has been trying.
Ultimately, this is one sexy phone and that's what keeps me hanging in there...
This phone is wonderful! It works fast because of Android (mine has Eclair 2.1) It is not heavy, white is really stylish, one thing I should say: answering is not very easy - you should slide on the screen because there's no usual button for this. It might be a problem when it's cold outside and you should answer using your fingers (you should take your gloves off), but I think the decision is to use headphone or Bluetooth Headset. Overall the phone is very good!
Not the latest hardware but excellent none the less... High resolution screen, light weight, and very nice looking phone. I hacked it right away to put Android 2.1 on it which was an easy upgrade from the 1.6 that comes on it. The buttons feel a little cheap but otherwise it is a great smart phone.
