Based on a real-life incident, Jonathan Kaplan's hard-hitting drama is an eye-opener, examining a woman's right to exhibit her sexuality, and still not be physically violated against her will. Oscar winner Foster is riveting in a gritty, largely unsympathetic role, and McGillis provides an ideal counterbalance as a somewhat sheltered lawyer whose social conscience gets re-awakened. Absorbing from start to finish, "The Accused" is definitely not for kids or the squeamish. The movie also shows a legal system that places barriers in front of the individual who suffered one of the most heinous crimes imaginable. She is everything but a victim; a liar, a drunk, a drug addict, a "bad" person.
CAUTION: The rape scene is graphic and depicts the utter viciousness of such attacks.
Jodie Foster is at her BEST in this true story of a young woman who is raped in a bar after having a few drinks and the guys feel she is asking for it! After the initial opening scene where you see her running beat and torn from the bar, it begins with Jodi's character seeking a lawyer to put the men responsible behind bars until you finally find out the whole story of what happened. In the meantime, the men harass her to drive her to drop the charges. It is a well told drama and the acting by all is wonderful! Definately not for the kids, but a MUST see for all others. The movie starts off strong and doesn't drop a beat!!
RAPE, WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THIS, BUT THAT IT'S A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE INJUSTICE
TO ANY WOMAN. YES, I WOULD BE THE FIRST TO SAY THAT WOMEN NEED TO BE MORE
CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT THEY WEAR, SOMETIMES IN THE FACT THAT, IT CAN GIVE OFF THE
WRONG IMPRESSIONS, BUT THEY DO HAVE THE RIGHTS TO WEAR WHAT EVER THEY WANT
AND ALSO THE RIGHT TO SAY NO. I LIKE THE MOVIE BECAUSE JUSTICE IS SERVED
IN IT. BUT I DON'T LIKE THE FACT THAT IT TOOK SO MUCH TO GET THE JUSTICE WELL
DESERVED. THE FACT THAT MEN CAN EVER DO SUCH A TERRIBLE THING IS BEYOND ME.
VERY GOOD PERFORMANCE BY JODIE FOSTER!!!!!!
I already had this movie on VHS, but when I came across the DVD on EBay, I just had to purchase it. Jodie Foster (in my opinion) is one of the greatest actresses of all time. Her portrayal of a rape victim whose fight for justice and respect in this movie based upon a true story is among her best movies. Jodie is so convincing that you can almost feel her pain and anguish. Although this is an older movie, you will not be disappointed in purchasing and watching it.
This is a very intense movie! Well-acted, charged and emotional. The viewer is sure to become involved in a variety of emotions. Jodie Foster does an excellent job at portraying a young woman who drinks a little too much at a bar and pays the price as men take advantage of her. The movie is very good at showing public reaction to incidents like these.
Incidents in which the victim isn't viewed very compassionately by the community. Many people close their eyes to crimes in which the victim was at one time willing. As the movie goes on, the victim's experience becomes explosively clear. Are the men involved actually "guilty of rape"? That answer comes at the end of the movie.
Excellent movie!
