Movie synopsis
The 2002 rerelease of E.T., which marks 20 years since the film's 1982 debut, includes never before seen footage, enhanced visual effects, and a new remastered soundtrack.E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL is Steven Spielberg's warmhearted classic delight for both children and adults. It tells the story of an alien creature, E.T., mistakenly left behind on Earth. When a young boy, Elliott (Henry Thomas), finds E.T. and hides him in his home, both their worlds are changed forever. E.T. teaches Elliott and his two siblings (Drew Barrymore and Robert MacNaughton), whose parents have recently separated, about caring and love while the children protect E.T. from the malevolent world of grown-ups. Elliott and E.T. become so close that they share emotions; as E.T. becomes ill, so does Elliott. The children end up going on a fabulous adventure trying to help E.T. find a way back to his home planet. The movie was originally going to be based on a story idea by director John Sayles, but after he removed himself from the project, screenwriter Melissa Mathison (Harrison Ford's wife) took over the script and made it her own. John Williams's beautiful soundtrack became forever linked to E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

Master Director Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park,
Schindlers List, etc) makes this arguably his best film ever! The 1982
smash hit tells the heartwarming story of the special bond 10 year old
Elliot (Henry Thomas) forges with an alien he names E.T. The adventures
they share as Elliott tries to hide his new friend and E.T. tries to get
back to his planet provide plenty of laughs, action and tears.
As the Feds try to track him down and finally capture E.T., he finally
shows what he can really do and how advanced his life-being is. Dee
Wallace, Peter Coyote and a young Drew Barrymore co-star in a movie that
the entire family from kids to adults will absolutely love!!! Movie was
a multiple Acadamy Award Winner in 1982.

Buy it for the theatrical release

I was appalled the first time I saw Steven Spielberg's 2002/20th Anniversary Remake of E.T., one of the most magical movies of my childhood. The added CG effects/scenes and those that replaced the original puppet version of E.T. are abysmal. Thank goodness the director did think to include the original 1982 cut as seen in theaters for those fans who want the real, non-hopping E.T. and those gun-toting policemen.

Not as magical all these years later...

I bought E.T. for a movie night with my six year old. I fully expected that I would be the one to thoroughly enjoy it---and expected him to be moderately intersted at best. To my surprise, the movie didn't hold up well for me. But my son was riveted or at least very interested. It's a long movie for a young child, but he hung with it until the end and loved some of the scenes. The last time I saw this movie was in the theater, first run, when I was in my first year of college. Over the years, I've missed presentations on television and have always thought about renting it, but never found the time. I had fond memories of it being a "great" movie---but it just didn't live up to the legend it was in my mind. It is still a strong movie with great performances from the children and many people will still find it to be "fantastical." For me, it was entertaining, especially because my kid liked it. It's worth a look for sure.

Generations still enjoying E.T.

A good family movie. We enjoyed watching this movie years ago with our Children, and now we are able to share it with the Grandchildren. It is difficult to find in the stores and is ALWAYS checked out at the local rental stores, so I am glad I purchased it to add to our library. Now when the Grandkids visit, they want to watch "E.T. phone home." Fun movie and they don't stop talking about the scenes.

A Must See For Anyone

This is one of the greatest films of all time. Perhaps not the best family movie (can get scary) but without a doubt Spielberg strikes gold in a spectacularly new sci fi adventure. There are a few pretty fantastic quotes but the impressive performances by the children and the visually aesthetic features of this film, especially the cinematography, are really what we'll remember for years to come. I'd recommend this film to any friend, family member and most children.
