Movie synopsis
In the not-too-distant future, when pets can be cloned after they die and "virtual girlfriends" can be installed and programmed, Adam Gibson (Arnold Schwarzenegger) works as a helicopter tour pilot. On his birthday he comes home to discover an identical version of himself--an illegal human clone--celebrating with his family and friends. The next thing he knows, a squad of killers is after him in order to hide the evidence of their cloning activities, funded by Michael Drucker (Tony Goldwyn), a powerful businessman who hopes to make billions from human cloning in collaboration with his medical expert, Dr. Griffin Weir (Robert Duvall). Of course, nobody believes Adam when he says there's an impostor living his life, and soon he has to take matters into his own hands while being chased by bad guys who won't stay dead thanks to the magic of cloning and Syncordings, instant memory downloads. THE 6TH DAY is an intriguing sci-fi thriller, combining science fact and fiction with everything viewers could want from a Schwarzenegger movie: terrific special effects and an action-packed story, with two Arnolds for twice the fun.

The Sixth Day - A 2001 version of Total Recall

I always state this before any review because I am very biased - I love Arnold Schwarzenegger. I own the Sixth Day DVD and watched it (again) last night... its teriffic. The Sixth Day is essentially a 2001 version of Total Recall. While there are underlying streams of social commentary, the real greatness of The Sixth Day is an aging Arnold acting and behaving like the vintage Schwarzenegger of Total Recall, TI, etc. There are tons of great one liners (think of Running Man) and, despite looking close to 60, he has acts like the muscle man he is. Michael Rapaport is good and Robert Duvall is good as always... but Michael Rooker looks like a high school actor is a laughably bad... 5/5 for the Sixth Day though!

The Sixth Day Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Rapaport, Michael Rooker, Robert Duvall, Sarah Wynter, Tony Goldwyn, Wendy Crewson

Action! Adventure! Arnold!

THE SIXTH DAY offers double the fun. Two Arnold Schwarzeneggars are better than one! The plot has some similarities to TOTAL RECALL, but THE SIXTH DAY is set entirely on earth in the near future. The moral issues surrounding cloning are realistically explored, both humorously and poignantly. Instead of Arnold's morally ambiguous character from TOTAL RECALL, both Arnolds in THE SIXTH DAY are good guys. I like seeing Arnold play a tough yet tender family man, and his performance in this film is right on target. Top notch action adventure/sci-fi film with some interesting theological questions at its heart.

Not the best Sci-Fi film but still pretty good

The 6th Day

Not the best Sci-Fi film I've seen, but definitely not the worst. I really enjoyed the premise behind this movie, but I think it could've been made a lot better.

The action scenes just aren't up to par with the rest of the movie, they could've been handled a lot better. Arnie and the supporting cast are really good, but this movie fell short of my expectations.

Final Verdict:

3/5

Rent or Buy?: Although this movie could've been one of Arnies best, it fell short in my eyes. It's worth a rental, but I wouldn't buy it.
