We watch this movie every Christmas and were patiently waiting for it to come out on DVD. Our VHS tape was showing signs of wear. This is a wonderful, heartwarming and hilarious film, based, in part, on a true story of the first Empire State Lottery. The lead character, Frank Pesce, was one of the finalists, but I do not believe he actually won the lottery. It is, however, one of the most poignant films of its day. Anyone who watches it with us runs out and buys their own copy. It's that good. It ranks in the top 10 of my all-time favorite films. Enjoy it!
Entertaining story about ticketholders in the first New York State Lottery. Movie stars Danny Aiello, Lanie Kazan and Anthony LaPaglia. I especially like endings with a twist and enjoy movies made before obscene language became the norm.
This is my favorite movie. If you like italian based movies with a little gangster this is for you. Plus its a real life story. I watch this movie alot and make my friends watch it with me (then they thank me!)
We watch this every Christmas as well (the movie begins and ends on Christmas Eve). Anthony LaPaglia gives a great performance as Frank Pesche, an endearing Italian kid with a lot of charm and a WHOLE lot of luck that make up for his lack of common sense.
There are so many great lines from this movie. The storytelling (narration by LaPaglia) and the conversations between the characters are truly entertaining!
This is one of the best true stories in a movie format that I have ever seen. It's witty, poignant and most of all absolutely TRUE! Danny Aiello blends his veteran talent with a cast that can only be described as JOYFUL and TALENTED. This is a MUST for anyone's collection.
