Katherine Heigl is the lovely star in this cute, romantic comedy about a very unselfish, attractive young woman who is always the bridesmaid, literally. The film is set in New York City and has a rather 'dizzy' effect as Jane (Katherine) is caught between 2 girlfriends' weddings in the same evening. This sets the setting for a wild, crazy ride involving James Marsden (who I adore), Edward Burns and Malin Akerman. The plot is great, a little unbelievable as far as the boss (Ed) handles situations at work, but Heigl is always a pleasure to watch, and is a favorite of mine. I enjoyed the costumes in this movie, especially some of the outrageous bridesmaids dresses! Katherine has impressed me with her acting since I first saw her in 'My Father, The Hero' and I love the 'Love Comes Softly' films she is in. As she matures within her acting roles, she is ranking pretty highly in my book. Nice movie and sweet for the family.
This is a typical chick flick. This does not make it automatically suspect in my eyes, cuz I'm a chick. The characters are likable, James Marsden is very charming, and it ends happily (which is a must for me, since in real life, like the one I'm living, this rarely happens). There was good character development for Jane, the main female lead, but not for Kevin, the lead male. Great supporting actors (I love Judy Greer and Ed Burns) and good chemistry between the two leads. It was a throwback to the old loving/fighting classic love stories-oldies but goodies, by the way. Katharine Heigl is good in this movie, but for me, James Marsden stole the show. He did the same in Enchanted. Bravo, now he stands beside Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth for my leading men loves! All in all, good chick flick.
Even though you know where this movie is going before you even put it in the DVD player, you are still going to like it. Katherine Heigl is very funny as an "always a bridesmaid" friend, Jane, with a crush on her boss...who happens to fall for her sister's false persona. When the newspaper writer that covers the weddings section is assigned to her sister's upcoming event turns his focus to Jane and her quest for everyone else's perfect wedding, you know what going to happen. There's a happy ending for all.
MUCH MUCH MUCH better than Knocked Up. I almost didn't buy this movie because Knocked Up was just a disapointment. 27 Dresses doesn't have any of the tasteless frat boy humor, it's just a sweet romantic comedy that, unlike Knocked Up, you won't be embarrassed to watch in mixed company.
I just bought this movie last week and it did NOT dissappoint!! I hate when a movie is all hyped up, like this one, and then does not deliver...not the case here! Heigl did a fantastic job as a likeable leading lady that had great chemistry with James Marsten (Doyle). I feel that a romantic comedy is not great if the 2 people don't have that "it" factor - Chemistry, and these 2 have it. Not only did this movie have a lot more going on than the typical girl meets boy, girl hates boy, etc... story, it was great to laugh at and feel for the main character at the same time, because, let's face it ladies, we have all been there, well, maybe not exactly in her prediciments, but we can relate!! And that is the mark of a great chick flick and romantic comedy - WE CAN RELATE!! So, rent it, buy it, borrow it, but please see it, I loved it and so will you. Thanks for reading my review and please make sure to comment on if this review was helpful or not - Thanks so much and have a great evening! Sincerely, Erika
