Seeing as I'm a big fan of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, it was a very obvious choice to get my hands on the ultimate edition for the third chapter!
The impression I got from this game is just as I imagined it. Fast paced, jaw dropping super moves, and lets not forget the fun factor. There are about 50 characters this time, 8 new stages, additional costumes for the characters and a rebalanced gameplay system. There are a lot of modes to choose from as well as there are things to unlock, endings, artwork, titles, cards, etc.
While I really enjoyed the arcade mode and Heroes and Herald mode, the online was pretty much of no use. The reason I say this is because the online mode was dead, no one was playing and I assume the reason why is because it must have been laggy or just plain bad to play online. Even if I'm a little late buying this product there shouldn't be a reason for everyone to stop playing online seeing as Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition still goes strong. And I have that game too! Online is such an important thing in games these days! And another negative aspect are the stages. While we now have 8 new stages most of them seem very familiar to the original stages that we already have, which takes out the freshness of the game. And should I even bother explaining the DLC fiasco Capcom has been pulling lately?
All in all, this game is a must for fans of Marvel, Capcom or why not both? Don't look past the good stuff in a game just because there are a FEW negative aspects about it. It's like they always say, never judge a book by it's cover. Though in this case the cover is pretty rad!!!
I waited for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 for years. Then finally it was released but it only had a pitiful 36 characters! Considering Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for the PS2 had over 50 characters mere 36 characters didn't sit well with me so I waited to see if they'd release another version with more characters. And that is exactly what Capcom did with Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. This latest installment has 48 playable fighters! All famous super heroes and classic CAPCOM characters in crisp HD graphics. The visuals in this fighter are amazing. The game flows smoothly with no slowdowns, this is important in any fighter.
PROS: Great graphics with iconic characters, smooth gameplay. Each character has his/her own theme song and stage. The end result is a very fun fighting game with plenty of content. The online mode is present.
CONS: Game takes about 2.3 gigs out of your HDD during its install. The final battle against Galactus feels unfair and can cause some frustration.
Bottom Line: Capcom appears to be milking the fans of this game by slowly selling the content in chunks. In this installment you get PLENTY of content though. I bought my copy and I'm fully enjoying it :)
UMvC3 is a great fighting game that combines the best of both worlds. The extended roster adds some nice characters and keeps gameplay fresh.
Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 adds a generous 12 new fighters to the roster, bringing the total number of playable characters up to 50 (only 6 short of MVC2). In addition, 8 new stages have been added, including some sexy "remixed" stages from vanilla MVC3. All returning characters have been given small tweaks to their movesets, and in many cases, a new move or two. The updates to each character are significant, yet modest, and Capcom's effort to re-balance the game seems to be a success. X-Factor has been toned down in the power department, and top tier monsters from the original MVC3 (and Shin Omega Sentinel) seem a bit more leveled out in this new installment.
