Being a dad isn’t easy. You fathers out there already know this. But for those of us postponing our procreating days as far into the future as humanly possible, videogames let us get in some practice. The recent trend of the “dadification” of games, which puts you in the flannel-plaid of a highly protective dad, or surrogate dad, has been seen in popular apocalyptic games like The Last of Us and The Walking Dead. These games instill us with newfound respect for the old man. And as for dads, they give them someone to sympathize with. It shows them they’re not alone in worrying about keeping their kids safe, teaching them responsibility, and wrangling with the tough ethical question of whether to kill your zombie-infected son or to let him live.
