About Newt Gingrich

Despite losing to Mitt Romney as the Republican presidential nominee in 2013, Newt Gingrich has led a long and storied political career. Representing the sixth congressional district of Georgia from 1979 to 1999, Gingrich was also elected as the Speaker of the House from 1995 to 1999. More than just being a politican, he has also published 27 fiction and nonfiction books. These are "A Nation Like No Other: Why American Exceptionalism Matters," "Victory at Yorktown," and his Revolutionary War Series, among others. Aside from being a prolific author, this dynamic politician is also a filmmaker and has produced a documentary entitled "Nine Days That Changed the World." Among the many feathers in his cap, Gingrich is chiefly responsible for the "Contract with America" back in 1994 which detailed the policies that the Republicans promised to do if they achieved party majority in Congress. Because of this, he was named Time "Man of the Year" in 1995. Throughout his term in office, Gingrich signed a reform on welfare and came through on the Republican promise to balance the budget for America. Additionally, he also was able to pass a capital gains tax cut. While he has since left the House, Gingrich has still remained in service to the country by being a political consultant. As of 2013, he reportedly earns $80,000 for every speech that he makes. Another interesting fact about Gingrich is that he enjoys reviewing books on spies and military history. He is a self-confessed dinosaur enthusiast and is fascinated by the idea of creating outposts that can sustain life outside the planet Earth.
