About Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck's career is based on an odd combination of part shock-jock, part preacher, and part concerned citizen. Beck's early life was marked with tragedy, including a struggle with substance abuse. Beck became a successful radio personality, moving around to a variety of markets, but he continued to struggle with addictions. He turned to religion and spirituality to take control of his life again. A co-worker introduced Beck to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he eventually joined the church. The "Glenn Beck Program" first aired on the radio in 2000, in Tampa, and within two years it became a nationwide broadcast. Thanks to his success in radio, Beck moved on to television on CNN and later Fox News. Glenn Beck remains a popular figure in conservative media, ranking with Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. His television prog were never short on controversy or popularity. In 2011, Beck's contract with Fox News was not renewed and he began hosting a program on his own Internet-based network, TheBlaze TV. Glenn Beck is seen as a champion of the conservative movement, having written over a dozen books, including the non-fiction entries " The Real America: Messages from the Heart and Heartland," " Glenn Beck's Common Sense: The Case Against an Out-of-Control Government," and " Being George Washington: The Indispensable Man, As You've Never Seen Him"; his fiction books include "The Overton Window." Beck also has traveled the country, giving speeches as well as hosting comedy shows and appearing at several political rallies. He is an especially influential presence in the Tea Party movement. Glenn Beck's radio roots shine through in his presentation, though his material has become more grave, concerning politics and religious freedom.
